Supported Charities

Collecting for Ukraine

We will be collecting supplies for those made homeless and fleeing from Ukraine. Items can be dropped off here at school today, tomorrow and Friday morning and Mrs Parish will be taking them to a donation point on Friday.

The list below are some of the things that are needed:
-Plasters/bandages/first aid items/sanitary items, asprin/paracetamol
-Emergency foil blankets, sleeping bags, blankets, camping beds, towels
-Nappies, dummies, baby feeding bottles, wet wipes, milk powder, pushchairs
-Water, food with a long date, energy bars, tinned food
-Power banks, torches, batteries
-Coats, gloves, shoes for children and adults
-Toileteries, toothbrushes, tissues
-Boxes to transport in

Anything that you can spare will be appreciated.

Helping your child to understand
 
Below are some files and links to resources you may wish to look at to support in how to talk to your child about the situation in Ukraine and to support if they are worried or anxious.
 
These resources may not be suitable for your child so please view them and decide if they are needed.  For very young children this might be too difficult to discuss in any detail but please be aware that children are hearing, seeing and asking questions about this in school.
 
In school we are having collective worships where our focus is on the hope for peace and compassion for those impacted.

Department for Education advice for teachers and families
At our school we feel it is important to support charities - locally, nationally and internationally.  As well as taking part in national charity events such as Children in Need, we raise money for local charities such as Launceston Food Bank. 
 
This year we have raised money for:
Local food bank • Children in Need • Comic Relief/Sport Relief •NSPCC
 
Throughout the years we also support a variety charities: Shelter Box; Children’s Society; Homeless Mission; Cancer charities; Barnardos; Christian Aid; etc•
 
We also support with time:
We have a close link with Dementia Home in Launceston – Kernow House
Our Choir sings annually at the local hospital, at local care homes and for Council events.
 
The children have also chosen causes they wish to support through letter writing, campaigns, competitions etc.  For example, a class wrote to the local MP about traffic issues and invited and hosted a visit from a county councillor.  Another class wrote to companies about plastic use, and another about the use of palm oil.  Children have created litter posters and taken part in litter picking.
